Eating too much protein will trigger your kidneys to turn excess protein into carbohydrates, which turns off your production of ketones, and instead shifts gears to store those carbohydrates as fat.

Mistake #2: Electrolyte Imbalance

Pro Tip #2: In the first few weeks of starting a low-carb ketogenic diet, your body will flush excess water weight and sodium. Along with the sodium release, potassium will flush as well. This is a normal, natural process your body is designed for, so fear not. It’s a sign the ketogenic diet is working for you, you’ll lose noticeable water weight, and it’s very easy to re-balance your electrolytes with proper sodium, potassium, and trace minerals.

Mistake #3: Not Testing Blood Level Ketones and Tracking Properly

Pro Tip #3: You can’t manage what you don’t measure. And, if you’re measuring the wrong thing, you won’t get the results you want. The best way to measure and manage your progress to know for sure that you’re in ketosis burning fat as fuel, is by simply testing your blood. There are specific devices for just this.
